Recently, after having taken my first really close look at the former text accompanying these photos, it hit me how strange it sounded. I don't know how things got botched up. I was a in a bit of a hurry at the time providing the text. My apologies for the oversight- it's been quite some time since this was put on the web page. I can't believe that I waited this long to catch it............The following is a little better view and what was formerly intended. photo 1: Junco hyemalis ? 1st winter. This is the individual that I thought might have a little "pink-sided" lineage. Overall, the head and nape definitely appeared paler with a dark-lored look during the observation- which subsequently did not show well in the photo- but alas, too much gray in the wings for mearnsii. Note the unusual pale submoustachial/ malar on the bird, which was even more noticeable at different views during the observation. mantle brownish, noticeably darker hood |
